Been busy, but happy

I have been so busy lately. I'm a teacher and the end of the year is always NUTS! I have been sewing, and working on machines, and adding to the collection.

A little preview today, and I'll update as time permits.

Before. I cleaned this sweet Brother up for my daughter.

And after!!! Isn't she gorgeous!!

My daughter just needed a simple basic machine to get started sewing. This one cleaned up well, and makes a great stitch. I think she'll enjoy it!

Signatures

I'm working on a signature quilt from my kiddos that I teach. I have 3 rows put together, but I hope to have the top together soon.

The center blocks were the only new fabric I used. I used 2.5" strips from my scrap strip basket to frame them. I think it's going to turn out nicely.

I have a couple more machines added to the collection, but they are special and I want them to have a post of their own. Come back soon!

Yard Sales and Thrift Stores Oh My!!

I'll admit it. I'm a resale addict. I'm such an addict, I buy AND sell. My mom and I are setting up a shop with a friend at a local Flea Market to sell some of our excess. Our half of the business is called MawMaw & Me. Our opening weekend is next weekend and we're really excited. Today my sweetie and I were taking a load of things out to the booth, and I saw a sign. "Antique & Vintage Sale." Well you know I just had to stop. They had lots of neat things, most of them overpriced, like a vintage Singer, totally rusted and frozen up, for $30. That's too much for me, too much work. I did find a few treasures though.

Aren't these adorable??? Maybe the one on the right will be bait for a cute little Sew Handy. ::fingers crossed::

This book came from a Museum in Hawaii. It was printed in 1972 and is a talk that someone gave in 1933 about the history of Hawaiian quilts. It has pictures too!

I also got this awesome old quilt. Completely hand pieced and quilted. It was made by the lady's great-grandmother. It was a shame how cheap she sold it for. I will treasure it!

Once we got done taking a few loads to the booth, we stopped in at Harbor Freight. Well, Harbor Freight just happens to be right next to one of my favorite thrift shops. I stop in at least once a week. I'm rarely disappointed and today was no exception.

Needs a little bit of love, and Howard's Restore-a-Finish, but it's just the cutest thing ever. I am thrilled with today's purchases. I know I'm a resale, vintage and antique addict and I'm proud of it!!

Getting Started

I am not new to social media and blogging, but this is a new blog for me. Around 10 years ago I had a semi popular knitting blog, KnitSteph. I knit all the time, I knit lots of things, and amassed a pretty large stash. Over the past year or so though, I just do not have the love of knitting that I once had. I am now working on paring down my stash of yarn and knitting supplies (and spinning wheel, and looms...) and getting back into my original love, quilting and sewing.

My great-grandmother taught me to hand piece quilts when I was very young, maybe 3, or 4. She had me cut out squares using newspaper patterns and sew them together. After that I learned to machine sew on my grandmother's Singer 237. I remember that thing was HEAVY!! Around the age of 8. I got a Montgomery Ward child's sewing machine.

I made clothes for my doll on this machine. I just found it in the attic last weekend!

Last summer, my mother and I began "collecting" vintage sewing machines. Now, we have over 100 machines and are beginning to thin the herd so to speak, cutting them down to just ones we want to keep and use. I'm not exactly sure what I want to do with this blog, but I'm sure I'll figure out along the way. I hope to post a gallery of machines in my collection, and photos of projects and who knows what else.

I hope you will find my posts entertaining and informative. Please feel free to comment as I love seeing who is reading my posts and making friends in the blogging community.

So...... here we go!!
